Nadia Debono, VIOLIN

Nadia Debono is co-leader of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), a position she has held since 2001 after being violinist with the Manoel Theatre Orchestra. She has featured as a soloist with the MPO, performing Bach Brandenburg no.5, Vivaldi Autumn Concerto, Geminiani La Folia, amongst others, and as a member of MPO’s chamber ensemble, recently giving a recital with Miriam Gauci and David Hansen.

Nadia also forms part of the New Century Baroque (NCB), a period instrument baroque orchestra that was established by members of the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO). With NCB she has worked with acclaimed directors and musicians including Enrico Onofri, Petra Muellejans and Edward Higginbottom. 

She participated in the EUBO 2009 audition course in Echternach under the tuition of Margaret Faultless, Anton Steck and Lars Ulrik Mortensen after which she was selected to tour Europe as part of the acclaimed EUBO chamber orchestra. Before this, Nadia co-founded the Anon String Quartet whose repertoire is primarily Baroque music. In 2003, she took part in an International Baroque Festival in Malta, and attended a course in London on Baroque playing with Kati Debrentzeni and Marion Wood. 

Earlier, she was twice invited to join the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, where she performed in a concert by Maxim Vengerov, and another featuring the whole Wagner’s Ring Cycle under the direction of Mro.Alexander Anissimov. Following her early studies with Joseph Psaila and Mario Bisazza, Nadia was twice selected by the Orchestre Des Jeunes de la Méditerranée to participate in workshops and tours in European and Mediterranean countries.  She has toured as a chamber musician giving performances in France, Italy, Scotland, Tunisia, and the UK.
